I must say, I don't believe there's a St. Summer, Krystall, Mia, Amanda, Samantha, Gillian or Ashlee - and the database search doesn't pull any up, either.

On the other hand, there are a number of Saints Anne and Anna. You'll have to read through their bios.

St. Lea was a 4th century Christian who became the head of an abbey after she was widowed.

Again, there's more than one St. Sophia/Sofia. My favorite story is of St. Sofia, sister to Charity, Faith and Hope. Her three sisters survived numerous persecutions under Hadrian, but ultimately were beheaded. Sofia died praying over their graves.

You should note two important things with Saint's names. First, until very recent history, the process of canonization was not formal, but instead based on tradition. So many saints' histories are murky, at best. But more importantly, you're looking for someone to inspire your faith - not just a pretty name.

For me, I focused on the only two women to ever be named doctors of the church - St. Teresa of Avila and St. Catherine of Siena. As it turns out, I'd been to Avila, so I went with Teresa.

Best wishes.
Reply:Hi, I'm afraid I doubt there's a 'conventional' saint called Krystall, Summer, etc., and I don't know much about Anne or Sophia (which is a beautiful name, in my opinion).

However, when I made my confirmation my class was told that anyone who has died can be considered a saint, and therefore we could choose pretty much any names. A couple of people picked modern/unique names somewhere along the lines of Summer, Leilani etc., and the priests and bishop had no problem.

Nonetheless, if you want to stick with a more traditional name, there are lovely names which belong to 'conventional' saints.

Good luck with whatever you choose, and enjoy your confirmation!

Reply:St. Sophia is an important figure in the Eastern Orthodox church.

For St. Anne, click this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Anne

I don't think the others are saints though

=)
